JV35 House
Nestled in Bukit Damansara, where the gentle sounds of nature intertwine with the distant hum of urban life, our client envisioned a home that would not only reflect his playful and dynamic lifestyle but also cater to his unique passions. An avid rock climber, photographer, and nature enthusiast, he sought a living space that would foster gatherings, celebrate creativity, and harmoniously integrate his hobbies into everyday life. This vision inspired the creation of a residence that seamlessly balances function, form, and a sense of adventure.
At the heart of this multilevel home is a central staircase, a defining feature that connects the split-level design while serving as a sculptural centrepiece. Designed as a functional work of art, the staircase incorporates a custom railing inspired by the organic beauty of a blossoming flower. As it rises, the railing opens up like petals unfolding, lending a sense of lightness and motion. To heighten the sense of play, a layer of dynamic netting was added, transforming the space into an interactive and whimsical element that encourages exploration and creativity, especially during gatherings.
Adjacent to the staircase lies a dramatic four-storey-high inner courtyard that brings the outdoors inside. This vertical space was designed with the client’s love of rock climbing in mind, featuring a custom climbing wall that rises seamlessly alongside the courtyard’s natural landscaping. By integrating this unique element, the design elevates the home from merely functional to a true reflection of the client’s passions, blending recreation and relaxation in a single stroke.
The home’s façade, crafted with a sense of elegance and functionality, features a maroon-coloured screen accented with perforated metal details. This bold yet understated choice not only provides privacy and shading but also allows dappled light to filter through, creating ever-changing patterns throughout the day. The façade’s striking appearance complements the house’s lively interior while hinting at the playful design philosophy within.
The multilevel layout further enhances the home’s dynamic character, with split levels connected by a series of suspended walkways. The walkways are carefully designed to echo the colour palette of the central sculpture and maroon screen, creating a sense of continuity and visual rhythm throughout the house. Strategic framing of views ensures each level has its own unique perspective. The uppermost floors serve as ideal gathering spaces, offering sweeping vistas of the Kuala Lumpur skyline, a breathtaking backdrop for both quiet moments and lively get-togethers.
At the rear of the property, the design embraces the tranquillity of its surroundings. A sauna room, positioned to capture the beauty of the natural landscape, provides a private retreat where the client can unwind while remaining connected to the environment.
This home is more than a residence; it is a reflection of the client’s personality and passions, where the line between function and art is blurred, and every space tells a story of creativity, connection, and joy. From the climbing wall to the blossom-inspired staircase, every detail is infused with purpose, making this house a true testament to living life with intention and playfulness.
