The overall master plan celebrates the unique geological identity of the river and the sense of place that reflects the origin and timeline of Sibu

University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) is the culmination of the State of Sarawak's vision and commitment in establishing a world-class institution of higher learning to spearhead the development and production of technical human resources for the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE). Phase 1 was completed in 2015, Phase 2 in 2019, and Phase 3 is currently under construction.

The UTS building seamlessly integrates planning, design, and green architecture to create a fully cohesive, comfortable, and user-friendly environment that fosters research, teaching, and learning

The permeable roof canopy allows natural daylight to infuse the active community gathering spaces, while the carved view opening blurs the boundaries between the inside and outside

UTS is committed to facilitating student access to an affordable world-class university education that nurtures creative and entrepreneurial leaders through a brand education in science and technology while combining the career benefits of an applied approach for SCORE-related research and career opportunities.

Aligned with the university’s vision of pioneering a high-tech learning and teaching environment, the design team responded by boldly exploring into futuristic architecture and employed the latest and more technologically advanced building materials

The vertical circulation corridor is highly interlinked, leading from the central spine to multi-levels of various facilities, classrooms, and shared hubs

Situated in Sibu, one of the main gateways into SCORE, UTS's campus, when completed, will be equipped with the latest state-of-the-art facilities to facilitate teaching, learning and research activities necessary in the production of graduates required by the industries within SCORE.

Rainforest Canopy is crafted as the centrepiece of the campus with a large central courtyard full of lush landscape

A campus designed with a futuristic vision, reflecting the essence of Sibu

In addition, UTS will be complemented by its own Technology Park, which will bring about vast research and entrepreneurial opportunities through local and international industrial and educational collaboration.

Detail of the structural connection

The site, which covers a total land area of approximately 96.98 acres, is situated right adjacent to the Old Sibu Airport Runway. It is in an elongated shape with an organic form. It has the advantages of having its length facing north and south which is ideal for building's orientation in terms of 'Green' building design.
