Botanika Garden P House
Botanika Garden P House is located in Kuching, Sarawak, with a built-up area of 2,800 sq ft. The owners, a young professional couple who had worked in Singapore for ten years, decided to return to Kuching for good.
They purchased the house from a developer and left it vacant for three to four years before deciding to renovate. The renovation included the entire house, with a 200 sq ft extension for the wet kitchen and laundry area.
The couple was drawn to our portfolio on Instagram, and we were equally intrigued by the void in the house, which the developer had included, allowing sunlight to flood the interior.
The design concept for this house is neoclassical, characterised by grandeur in scale and perfectly aligned geometry. In addition, we also transformed an interior column into an interesting feature.
The biggest challenge in this project was concealing the building column using cylindrical and spherical objects. Achieving a geometric balance from an aesthetic standpoint required several trials and errors by both the designer and contractors.
The design also involves incorporating natural light through strategically placed windows and a skylight to maximise daylight and reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day.
